I just got word that renowned local pianist Michael Arnowitt has organized a solidarity benefit show at the Langdon Street Cafe in Montpelier, VT for this Saturday, January 24 from 3-5 pm.  Proceeds collected at the show will be going to the Al Ahli Hospital in the the center of Gaza City.  It’s an Anglican (Episcopal) affiliated facility and one of 11 hospitals in the area serving one of the most densely packed populations in the world.  As a result of the recent Israeli military actions against the people of Gaza, numerous windows and doors at the Al Ahli Hospital have been destroyed by rocket and missile fire landing nearby and they continue to experience drastic shortages in medical supplies, water and electricity.  Large numbers of the hospital staff are working/living 24/7 at the facility.  Money collected at the show will go directly to the hospital to alleviate the on-going humanitarian disaster there.  Word is that if you can’t make it specifically during the show, the folks working behind the counter will be taking donations for the cause all day beforehand, so just drop by when it’s convenient, get yourself a cup of the best coffee in Montpelier, and give what you can to aid the people of Gaza whose lives are threatened by the mindlessness of war.
