160-87, that was the final vote by tech workers at FAHC (Fletcher Allen Habitually under Construction) to join the AFT. A huge congratulations to them all, because they now have a say on matters that affect them in the workplace. I know, I know… having a say in matters that effect you (the Greek have a word for it, I’m not sure on the spelling but it’s something like “demo-cracy”) may sound crazy to some who prefer the idea that the people at the top, with the most power, who make the most money, deserve to just tell everyone else what to do, how to do it and when (without, of course, any “why”) but I think their lives will all be better- maybe a little, maybe a lot, but certainly better.
Cheers, and good luck in bargaining.

The worker’s center played a huge part in that victory. It’s a great victory for them. Now if all Vermont could follow.

Eh, not at all a dis to the VWC, but I’d say they “helped out” not “played a huge role”. An incredibly talented and dedicated staff at the AFT (probably the most talented union staff in VT since, well, I don’t even know), and some very dedicated and passionate workers at FAHC made this victory possible. And it doesn’t read so, but I’m hoping your comment “it’s a great victory for them” is referring to the newly unionized workers, not the VWC. Forming a union is a great victory for those workers, and for our communities at large, but not outside third parties; worker’s organize for their own lives, as a community we should support them for the strength and security of our community, and third party entity’s either assist in such efforts or simply use such things for their own political gain (and to be clear I put the VWC in the category of the former).

Actually, I did mean a great victory for the techs at Fletcher.
