As of Friday night (EST) indigenous people from the Amazon were being slaughtered en masse by the Peruvian government. Clashes have broken out of late as the Amazonian people have sought to protect their lands from increasing encroachment by the Peruvian State as it seeks to establish new sources of oil and gas. The latest news is that at least several dozen indigenous people were killed- with some reports that their dead bodies were being burned and dumped into rivers. Take action by contacting the Peruvian government and telling them to end the violence against indigenous people (contact information, as well as a pre-written letter in Spanish can be found at that last link about half way down the page).
